"Arboretum Days" on Saturday, October 8th, 2011
Arboretum to host fall foliage activity for pre-kindergarten through fifth grade
The Donald E. Davis Arboretum will host "Arboretum Days" Saturday, Oct. 8, at 9 a.m. "Arboretum Days" is an approximately one-hour educational program designed for children age pre-kindergarten through fifth grade at the arboretum. The October event will educate participants on leaves, such as leaf function and anatomy, and why they change color in the fall. A leaf-themed art project will also be part of the program as participants will create leaf castings. There is no fee for Arboretum Days but pre-registration is required. 6pm-9pm: Come join the Auburn Duplicate Bridge Club for a weekly duplicate bridge session sanctioned by the American Contract Bridge League (ABCL). Participation is open to bridge players of all levels of play. ACBL membership is not required. Session meets at the Frank Brown Recreation Center.
6:30pm-8pm: Salsa Lessons! Come and learn beginning and advanced techniques of the spicy Latin dance. No partner or previous dance experience needed. This class will also include the basics in Merengue and Bachata. Class meets at the Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center.

- Spend quality time as a family for Safety Day
- Children can build and paint a Fire Rescue Helicopter
- FREE hands-on workshops designed for children ages 5 - 12 offered the 1st Saturday of every month at all The Home Depot stores between 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
- Workshops teach children do-it-yourself skills and tool safety along with instilling a sense of pride and accomplishment.
- All kids get to keep their craft and receive a FREE Kids Workshop Apron, commemorative pin and certificate of achievement.

Get Moving with the Auburn Stride Walkers
Get moving with the Auburn Stride Walkers Club! Citizens of all ages are invited to join the club for walks at various City walking trails every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 9 a.m. Participation is free and walks are held at your own pace and distance. Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a water bottle.

Woofstock 2011 is Saturday, August 27th, 2011
Join the Lee County Humane Society (LCHS) for Woofstock 2011 on Saturday, August 27 from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. at Kiesel Park. Woofstock is a celebration for Lee County residents and their pets and includes live entertainment, a children’s fun area, and activities for you and your four-legged friend to enjoy. Owners will also have an opportunity to register their dogs and purchase their City of Auburn dog tag, as required by City Ordinance. Admission to this event is FREE. There is a small fee for some activities in the park. All proceeds benefit adoption programs for the animals at the LCHS. All dogs are welcome as long as they remain on a leash. Mystic Order of East Alabama Fiction Writers Premiere Art Show
Auburn, Ala. - The Mystic Order of the East Alabama Fiction Writers will hold their premiere art show in the art gallery at the Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center, 222 East Drake Ave, during the month of August. The exhibit is free and open to the public Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Citizens are encouraged to take part in this first-ever public display of the group's work.
The Mystics are composed of a group of six women: Margee Bright-Ragland, Gail Langley, Judy Nunn, Joanne Camp, Marian Carcache, and Mary Dansak. Each woman has various interests in different types of artwork. The show will feature paintings, photography, and assemblages.
A reception will be held Friday, Aug. 26 at 5:30 p.m. at the Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center to celebrate the closing of the art show. There will be light refreshments and a brief reading from their new book, Be the Flame. The reception is free and open to the public.

Annual Fourth of July Celebration Sponsored by Briggs and Stratton
Join Auburn Parks and Recreation for the Annual Fourth of July Celebration on Monday, July 4 behind the home side of Duck Samford Stadium. This FREE, community event is sponsored by Briggs & Stratton Corporation and is open to all ages. Gates open at 6 p.m., followed by live music at 7 p.m. Be sure to stick around for one of THE best fireworks displays in the area beginning at 9 p.m.
This year’s musical entertainment will feature local favorite, the Weston Burt Band, a country group best known for their strong vocals in combination with the classic sounds of the fiddle and banjo. The band’s first album, “Born To Do,” is now available on iTunes. Fresh off a stint in Nashville
at this year's CMA Music Festival, the band put their finishing touches on their second album, set to be released in 2012. Don't miss your chance to see a fantastic live performance by one of country music's up and coming acts.
